Crossing Media – A Stage for Art
19 July 2013 – 6 October 2013
Crossing Media was an international festival of contemporary art which developed out of the International Foto Triennale at the Villa Merkel (Germany). In 2013 the galleries of the city of Esslingen focused on positions of the crossover, which, starting off from photographic approaches, provided a stage for performance and interactive tendencies on an equal footing.
Crossing Media: an art and media Triennale intends to build bridges between disciplines and genres, exploring how visual arts is related to theater, music and language. Artistic positions of photography, video arts, installation and performance were presented next to interactive performances, sonic events and conversations.
As Curatorial Fellow at the Villa Merkel, a contemporary art institution in a nineteenth-century mansion located outside Stuttgart, I assisted with the planning, implementation, and logistics of the multidisciplinary project, maintained website and social media presence, wrote for and edited the exhibition related publications, and organized in depth events.
For example, I expanded the exhibition space into the gardens on 17 August 2013 and coordinated the interactive performance Everybody Dance – A Moving Choir [Tanz Aller] by LIGNA. Through recorded instructions for movement transmitted to each participant by radio, the performance created an immersive experience for a multigenerational group of participants.
